All’s well that ends well

Jarod | May 17, 2009

Volume 3 of Heroes went downhill so fast after chapter 7 that I didn’t have much hope for Volume 4. I’m one episode short to the end, and although it’s been much better than v3, as in all the Heroes seasons it seems they will frak up the ending again. We’ll see…

The Wire Season 2 on the other hand had a perfect ending. They don’t cease to impress with the high-quality – consistent – writing and editing. I had to laugh so hard so many times, about the smallest side-jokes. Again, I wish German TV would ever have something only half as clever.

Besides watching shows I haven’t done much this weekend. On Saturday I slept 14 hours straight, which usually is a sign for too much overtime … well, next week will be short, and I will sleep more. Promise.

An old highschool friend who I haven’t met in five years or more invited me to his wedding. I know the bride (also an old friend) and I probably know many of the other invited guests. And that’s what I’m pondering. I’d really like to go, out of curiosity, maybe to revive an old friendship, let alone out of loyalty. But it’s quite possible that two specific people are also invited who I really, really don’t want to meet – ever – again. One out of courtesy, the other for other reasons. Dilemma, dilemma.

The Experiment – Outcome

Jarod | May 1, 2009

Three months after the start of the experiment it is time for a verdict. I can’t help but declare experiment a failure.

Ever since the novelty wore off, I’ve been scarcely posting new updates on Twitter. The main reason at first was that I was too busy at work. By now, I honestly don’t care too much anymore.

I still use Twitter, but really only as some kind of extended, customizable news service or RSS feed. The number of tweets that are actually interesting for me is small compared to the vast number of tweets that just steal my precious time (something that has become much more valueable these days). I’m sure I will continue using it that way, and occasionally post an update, but the revolutionizing new must-have tool it certainly is not. How I know that? Because if I stopped using it today, I wouldn’t miss anything.

I like funny, poetic, informative, imaginative and innovative tweets, and Twitter is full of that, full of cool, friendly, interesting people. But I feel about Twitter just like about blogs – my blog roll is very short, I focus on things that add value to my life, and Twitter (and the internet in general) is too full of over-communication as it is. Like a famous German comedian once said, if you have nothing to say …
