… and the Kingdom of the Special Effects
Jarod | May 22, 2008A few friends and I went to see the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull premiere last night. It sounds like Indy, it feels like Indy, it looks like Indy. Well. For the most parts it looks like Indy. There are so many special effects and explosions, personally I think it’s too much, over the top. At its heart it’s still a B-movie and you want to like it – but if that old man wouldn’t look, sound and act like the Harrison Ford you idolized as a kid, you wouldn’t forgive his age so easily. But we had a lot of fun, and that’s what counts, doesn’t it?
There were a few kids with us in the cinema, maybe ten years old. I had the feeling that their parents dragged them into the movie to let them experience the same what they did when they saw the first Indy movie at their age. But those kids were quite scared during really spooky scenes and violent parts, I guess they were a little too young to see scary skeletons and people getting eaten by giant ants…
My personal favourite still is – and probably always will be – is The Last Crusade. You just can’t beat “Ah, Venice” and the tank chase…
