The Doctor and other medical revelations

Jarod | January 27, 2008

So, finally they started to air Doctor Who on German television, and I got around to see the very first two episodes. And I liked it! It’s so silly, it’s fun again. I’m definitely going to watch the next episodes, too, and see which direction the story takes, could be any as far it seems. I have a friend (the one who introduced me to Black Books) who doesn’t like it so much, and I can see why. Lets see how it all turns out.

I already convinced one of my workmates to come with me and see Star Trek XI, although it will be hard to get together on the premiere date, December 25th. Anyways.

I just finished cleaning my windows and now it looks like rain.

I can’t cook and do laundry at the same time, the stupid fuse wouldn’t let me me turn on the oven and the washing machine simultaneously (at least not for long).

I have three games that I want to finish or restart playing, but whenever I sit here I just don’t feel like it.

I have to get my bike out of “storage” and start cycling to work (instead of taking the train), but I just don’t feel like it either.

I should sell my old computer, but I just moved it into my bedroom because I just don’t feel like it (besides it’s not worth the effort anyway).

I know I promised medical relevations in the title, but it’s really not so new that too much coffee makes you … jumpy. It’s always good to remember, though, is it not?

He’s dead, Jim – for the time being

Jarod | January 22, 2008

(Former) Perpetual Entertainment cancelled Star Trek Online. Shame on them. Okay, rather cancel the game than release an aweful beta version of a broken game. Nonetheless, the game isn’t dead, it will float around until someone picks it up and finishes it. But it will take a loooong time before I can play it, dangit.

But but but: The first teaser of Star Trek XI now is available for download in HD quality on www.paramount.com/startrek! It’s her, it’s the Enterprise! Christmas 2008, I can hardly wait. I’m a happy geek today.

Black Books

Jarod | January 17, 2008

Do you know the British TV series “Black Books”? It’s a comedy/sitcom (no couch though!) that takes place in a bookshop, owned by Bernard Black, excentric/lunatic shopkeeper and customer scare. Quite brilliant. Thanks Seb, for introducing it to me!

Good Trash, Bad Trash

Jarod | January 14, 2008

I had an exceptionally pleasant weekend I’d like to say. I got everything done quickly that had to be done, met friends and had loads fun with them, and I even slept quite well on Saturday (this becoming somewhat of a problem lately – I yet have to find the ultimate solution to that). It’s gonna be while before I get my new contacts, but the single day that I wore test lenses made many people say how different I looked without glasses. Well, yeah :)

Movie-wise I sticked to trash, since the rental service sent me nothing but. On Friday I started with Ghost Rider (starring Nicolas Cage), and I must say: Stay away from it. There are people who like Nic and some who hate him, I’m sitting somewhat in between. But his acting was the only good thing to say about the movie, and once he turns into the Ghost Rider even that is lost since he’s all CGI. Stay. Away.

The second movie was genuine trash: Tarantino’s Death Proof, one part of the Grindhouse double feature. It’s way better trash than Ghost Rider but that’s easy to do. In the first part of the movie, everything is meant to look like a badly made 70ies action flick, including mis-cuts and extra grain and so on. In the second half, it all turns to normal though, in contradiction to the plot which does a 180 as well. I won’t say that I understood everything (because I didn’t, call me stupid), but on the bottom of things, if you only look at the entertainment value without the artsy components, I’d rate this movie only an average. But I never have been a big Tarantino fan to begin with.

I’m in a very good mood. I feel change coming soon, positive change. Maybe that’s just the weather?
